The unofficial patch for StoneKeep to allow both music/fx on GUS
This patch is made only for GUS set at the port 220, so if you have GUS/SB
combination with gus at different port than 220 you'll be not able to use
this patch. What you need to do is:
- copy files HMIMDRV.386, GRAVIS.BAT, LOADPATS.EXE, SKEEP.INI to your game
directory.
- run: LOADPATS -ISKEEP.INI
- run the setup program
- select GUS as fx card and GENERAL MIDI with the port 330 (or any different
than 220) as music card, then exit the setup.
- you can run the game now by typing: gravis.bat. Enjoy!
WARNING: If you'd like to use General Midi card later instead of GUS, make
sure to preserve the original hmidrv.386 file under different directory or
name.
How it works? It seems the HMI drivers for GUS aren't really well written as
many games have probs with GUS HMI. What I did is to fool the program to think
that GUS driver is actually GM driver, but because either the game or the
HMI standard doesn't allow both fx/music cards to be set at the same port (in
this case 220) I had to modify the MIDI driver to always use port 220. So
now it is possible to select some stupid port number with the setup program
(different than port of fx card) and it will work. If you have problems with
setup program I have included example file CONFIG that contains the right
values for GUS drivers to work. You only have to edit your CD-ROM drive letter
if needed. That's all. Enjoy this cool (but bit buggy) RPG game in full now ;)
